Washington, D.C., October 24, 2016 – Today, the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and Caterpillar Inc. presented Rep. Darin LaHood (R-IL-18) the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence at an event hosted by Illinois Manufacturers’ Association in Springfield, Ill.
“Rep. LaHood hit the ground running to support manufacturing in the United States,” said Caterpillar Vice President of Global Government and Corporate Affairs Kathryn Karol. “He’s been a staunch supporter of expanding exports and trade, reforming our broken tax code and many more job-creating policies. Rep. LaHood possesses a deep understanding of how important manufacturing is to his district, to the state of Illinois and to our entire nation. His commitment goes beyond just words to both action and leadership, and Caterpillar is proud to present him this award.”
“Darin LaHood is a strong champion for Illinois manufacturing companies, which employ 570,000 workers in our state,” said Illinois Manufacturers’ Association President and CEO Greg Baise. “Darin understands that American manufacturing ingenuity and innovation helped build our great nation, and he is committed to ensuring that we have a strong business climate to encourage growth and job creation in the future.”
“I am honored to accept the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence,” said Rep. LaHood. “The role played by manufacturers in our backyard, like Caterpillar, is critical to the economic viability of our state. Central and West Central Illinois is home to some of the most innovative and successful manufacturers in the nation. However, for far too long, the policies coming out of Washington have continued to over-tax and over-regulate these manufacturers; these policies have severely impacted small communities throughout the 18th District. I am proud to receive this award and will continue to be the strong advocate for commonsense, bipartisan solutions that will put our manufacturers on a path toward continued growth and job creation.”
“Manufacturing in Illinois and across the country is changing lives for the better—through the jobs we create and the products we make,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons.
“Manufacturing is about improving the human condition, one innovation at a time. Rep. LaHood is helping to make our success possible by standing with manufacturers when it matters and casting the right votes.
“Manufacturers employ more than 12 million men and women in the United States, who are making everything from lifesaving medicines to the most cutting-edge technology,” Timmons continued. “The strength of manufacturing in America is responsible for the success of America in the world. When manufacturing succeeds, America succeeds, so Rep. LaHood’s consistent support for manufacturing means he is supporting a better future for all Americans.”
Key votes included in the Voting Record are selected by small, medium and large manufacturing executives who serve on the NAM’s Key Vote Advisory Committee. Additional information on the NAM Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence can be found here.
