Things are quieter in the Downstate 18th District — thankfully — since disgraced congressman Aaron Schock resigned. Darin LaHood, a conservative Republican and former state senator from Dunlap, won the 2015 special election to replace Schock in Washington. LaHood now seeks a full term, running against Democrat Junius Rodriguez, a Eureka College history professor.
The things we liked about LaHood when we endorsed him last June stand: The former prosecutor is a principled, independent conservative. LaHood, son of Ray LaHood, who held this seat previously, has earned a full term and gets our endorsement.
