PEORIA – Congressman Darin LaHood (R-Dunlap) announced that Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson will join him as a special guest and keynote speaker for the joint 2024 Lincoln Day Dinner with the Peoria and Tazewell County Republican Central Committees. The dinner will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024. The Peoria-Tazewell Lincoln Day Dinner is one of the largest events in Illinois Republican politics, with Republican activists, leaders, officeholders, and prospective candidates from across Illinois coming to speak to voters.
“Speaker Mike Johnson has an inspirational life story that first led him to serve in the Louisiana State House before being elected to Congress, and then eventually as the 56th Speaker of the House,” said Congressman Darin LaHood. “I am honored to welcome him to this year’s Peoria-Tazewell Lincoln Day Dinner, and look forward to him sharing his optimistic outlook for our nation with conservatives from across Illinois as we work to maintain and grow our Republican Majority.”
“We are grateful to Speaker Mike Johnson for joining us this year and excited to again jointly host one of the largest events in Illinois Republican politics. Speaker Johnson will be a superb keynote speaker, highlighting his plans for implementing a conservative, common sense agenda for the American people, and path to keep the Republican Majority,” said Peoria and Tazewell County GOP Chairmen Chuck Weaver and Jim Rule.
The Peoria and Tazewell County Lincoln Day Dinners have a rich history of hosting visionary Republican leaders, including Governor Ron DeSantis, Vice President Mike Pence, Congressman Jim Jordan, Former Secretary of Energy and Governor of Texas Rick Perry, Republican National Committee National Finance Chair Todd Ricketts, and Former Secretary of the Interior and Congressman Ryan Zinke. The central and northwestern Illinois region also has a rich political history. President Abraham Lincoln served this same region during his one term in Congress from 1847 to 1849, President Ronald Reagan was born and lived in the area during childhood and attended Eureka College, and President Ulysses S. Grant resided in Galena.
